    Dreamweaver Ultradev 4

I'm currently learning to use dreamweaver, as I've taken over the maintenance of an existing website, which uses this program. Having read the tutorials etc. I have working knowledge of what to do, but I have been having some problems.

When I edit a page (specifically creating a new table so that more content can be added to that page of the website) and I 'put' it on the website, when logging into it and clicking on the specific page with admin rights it just gives me the HTTP 500 error. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Does anyone else out there who uses Dreamweaver have any advice on this problem, or in general, or any tips.

    Cheers,
    Ross

The testing server is on the same pc, yes. Would it make a difference if I used another pc? I have tried it with Dreamweaver closed though...

What do you mean by your second question? I'm not sure I quite get the phrasing? Do you mean the server I'm hosting the website on? Or something else?

Right....depending on what OS you are using, you can be running different versions of the server software. I'd take a guess and say you're running win XP Pro, which means you're running IIS5.1 if it's patched. It makes a difference you see!
You could be using Apache even....I need to know.

I am using XP Pro. And the editing computer is using SP2. I can test with an SP1 computer though if needs be.

Right....let's get this straight then. You run Dreamweaver on one pc, and use a webserver on a different pc to serve the pages?
Have you tried going onto the server pc, and typing

    http://localhost/

in a browser window to ensure that the pc is serving pages correctly? Then check security settings on the server to ensure that anonymous access is enabled. Check firewall setting son the server too - it may be blocking port 80, which will stop the server from actually serving any pages.
