    Error in CLI.exe on Windows boot

    My Dad has a user account (i.e. limited privileges) on my XP Home installation. For the last couple of weeks he's been getting the following error when logging on to Windows:

    [img=http://img121.exs.cx/img121/8203/error7uv.th.jpg]

    If you can't get the pic, the error is in CLI.exe, Commmon Language Runtime Debugging Services. It says "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled"

    Process id=0x430 (1072) Thread id=0x444 (1092)

    The error occurs consistently on his logon, but not on mine. It may have started around the time we bought our Brother DCP-110C multifunction printer.

    Does anyone have any ideas about what may be responsible?

    its the ati cats, you need to have .net framework installed from window update in order to use the catalyst control center install it, and reinstall the drivers shoudl fix the problem

    I have .net framework installed though. I have done for the last two or three Catalyst driver revisions, and this problem has apparently been around for only a couple of weeks.

    Does each user need appropriate permissions for .net to work properly? Should I give my Dad administrator rights and download .net again? Remember I'm using XP Home, so my network control isn't the same as it would be in Pro.

    Thanks for the quick reply, btw

    It seems like the Google consensus is that it's driver related. What I can't understand is why only one user on a three user system is getting this error. Are there any major security concerns in just giving everyone admin rights, bearing in mind it's only my account that's used extensively?

    I think I'll wait until the Cat 5.3s arrive, as it could be related to the 5.2 install.

    If this fails it maybe his current user reg is a bit messed up, create a copy of the profile folder from c:\documents and setting\Dads Profile name and store it somewhere, then if you delete the NTUser.dat, NTUser.dat.log and ntuser.ini files from the original c:\documents and setting\Dads Profile Name, from your admin account, you'll need to turn on show hidden files and folders ans show protected operating system files from tools > options in explorer, then log in as him and xp will recrete the current user reg again along with his desktop etc See if that works. If it does then profile was corrupt, if not you can simply delte the modified profile and copy back the original and try something else

    I'll look into that Olly. I've just managed to install SP2 after several problems. ZoneAlarm complained and borked the install; when I tried to uninstall SP2 that failed. Eventually I had to reinstall the nForce 2 and Catalyst drivers, before successfully installing SP2.

    5.3s should be out soon. I'll try those, and Olly's suggestion if it doesn't work out.

    I'm using 5.2s atm btw

    Hi all. I experienced the same issue. My CCC 5.2 will not start up at all when logged in as a user not in adminstrators group due to CLI.exe erroring out (WinXP + SP2). I tried to install different versions of .NET, but no luck. Do you have any further info on that?
    I'm concerned this will be a permission issue on some file or registry key.

    I kept trying to solve this and made it: login as Administrator, open up registry editor (regedt32) and go to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATI , right click, permissions. Give the user you want to be able to run CCC(maybe the everyone group) full access to this key (the ATI root). Reboot or run the ATI CCC/Advanced/Restart Runtime program from start menu. Now you must be able to start CCC with other users.
