If you are on an older version of Windows then you can install Windows Movie Maker to get you started, a very novice application. On newer versions of Windows you are best off with Avidemux (beginners application) or if you're editing skills are more advanced something like Blender.
But if you are using a Mac I believe you have iMovie which is good for beginner & intermediate editing.

Without any specifics as to what equipment you have this makes it difficult to give any sort of accurate advice.

Resolve is good if you want to do complex tasks but if you want something really simple to quickly crop videos then Avidemux is great. You can simply copy video/audio which will crop without re-encoding at all and it also supports Nvidia HEVC/h264.
