virus,
F-prot great all around unix virus scanner, although you'd be pretty much alright without one.
Sohpos also do a good virus product for unix os's
as for firewalls, depending on what kernel your running ipchains 2.2 kernel or iptable 2.4+ will be more than good enough
do you want an AV which can scan windows will your in linux?
there are about 30 viruses for linux, which almost all target old versions of the Apache web server. makes having antivirus a little unneccessary, really, but there is ClamAV as a free, open-source antivirus app
what about firewall. I'm not running windows on the same pc just Linux.
iptables......its a winner, easy to manage and solid as a rock.
there are a ton of "pay" products though
Cheers
iv lost the CPC benchmarks cd (i think) - buried underother CDs probably. I think that had an AV on, what was that?
no idea, I'm sorry to say.
Antivirus isn't really a killer under linux, and to be fair sophos, agv, f-prot or any other "ok" virus scanner will do you right.
Firewalls are many, but the reason I'd just stick with iptables apart from the fact its solid and easy is, its part of the kernel, so it can interact at lot easier with the system.
This is a great iptables based firewall script:
