Windows 10 thinks control key is pressed

My computer has started to act if the control key is pressed when it isnt. The control key cannot be used as it should in all software. I have checked for new drivers. Sticky keys are off. I have also tried a new keyboard & mouse. This issue is VERY frustrating. Windows 10 pro with all updates. I have also reinstalled windows via upgrade & keeping all docs & Apps.

Any advice or help in sorting out this issue would be much appreciated.

Just update your version of windows in to the latest version. and also check via device manager if some drivers are installed correctly.

They clearly stated they already had the latest version and had checked for new drivers

I get this occasionally on a couple of machines...

Try pressing the entire bottom row of keys on the keyboard at the same time.

Re: Windows 10 thinks control key is pressed

I've had keyboard gremlins where keys are being pressed when they're not on Windows 10.

I went through my BIOS and tweaked a few different things which may help stop any weirdness. The two that come to mind were turning off PS/2 support (assuming you're using all USB HIDs) and also I changed an option from partial USB initialisation to full.

So far, since I did that, the keyboard issues haven't re-emerged but there were a few things I changed, not just those (mostly related to memory timings, and so on).

Re: Windows 10 thinks control key is pressed

Thanks for the suggestions I will try these in due course. After further research it is only the left crtl key which is not functioning as it should. For now I have turned off this key using SharpKey. Not a solution but makes the computer usable

Do you happen to eat biscuits, sandwiches or anything else with crumbs near your keyboard...?

Re: Windows 10 thinks control key is pressed

No I don't. As I said in my original post This doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. I have tried 3 different keyboards, including a brand new one.

Re: Windows 10 thinks control key is pressed

How does the system respond when using Window's on-screen keyboard?

Does the control key work there?

How about when the computer is turned on without a keyboard plugged in? (log in with the OSK)
