Changing from whs 2011 to what
Hi all I have had whs then upgraded to whs 2011 but now the children have grown up and moved out so I only have 1 pc in the house plus th3 server and no need to do back ups of clients (children’s ) pc’s. So I have around 10Tb of media that I want to keep and would like an easy way to access it.
So what is recommended at this time ?
Thanks

If it is just storing media, then something like FreeNAS would seem ideal. The problem is migrating your existing data, unless you are happy to just buy a new 10TB of storage to put your data on.
Re: Changing from whs 2011 to what
If the 10Tb of data is using NTFS (and on a windows machine that is a certainty unless you specifically changed it to something else like FAT32) there are drivers for Linux based systems that will read and write to NTFS fikesystems.
There are some reports that writing can be a bit iffy, but as it’s an archive you could set up the server to mount them read only.

Thanks for the replies I just upgraded the os drive to a ssd so will see how that pans out and make my mind up at the next drive upgrade (that will give me a spare drive to migrate to if needed)
