    Which VPN to go for?

I’m seriously considering subscribing to a VPN. I know there are plenty of good providers, but it doesn’t seem like I can find another deal as good as NordVPN, so was wondering what would people who probably know a little more than I do think about this? Any other providers I should check out? Express looks impressive too, but a little too expensive I’m afraid. Maybe some have deals for less than 3 years subscription? I’m not exactly ready to commit to a 3 year one but it seems like it’s the best value for money from what I gathered.

Thanks in advance for any advice and info!

P.S. Sorry if this doesn't belong here, I couldn't find a more suitable section.

I've got a lifetime subscription to VPN Unlimited as it was on a very cheap deal, I don't use it much but I've got no complaints from the times I have used it. I bought it from StackSocial and they have lifetime subscriptions for several VPN providers at the moment - https://stacksocial.com/collections/...vpn-protection

Re: Which VPN to go for?

If you're not particularly bothered about IP nationality, Amazon Lightsail and run your own VPN service (Wireguard is pretty good) and whatever else you want.

A Debian OS-only instance is $3.50/month (£2.65) for 512MB memory / 20GB SSD / 1TB data. Just need to remember to keep it up-to-date in case any vulns arise.

I use Windscribe - I bought a lifetime unlimited Pro subscription from Stacksocial for about £30.

I'd recommend before buying a VPN, also check thatoneprivacysite.net for a review and see if it suits your needs

Re: Which VPN to go for?

I use one called Octane VPN. Can't quite recall how I came across it, but it works very well. I've been using it for a couple of years now.

I had an issue once where it refused to connect, contacted their support and they reset my profile which cured it. Good, timely support.

Re: Which VPN to go for?

I've used TunnelBear (pre McAfee buyout), PureVPN, PIA, IVPN and Cyberghost.
You have to hunt around for a good price. There are plenty of offer codes out there, sign up to their newsletters as they all often drop their prices randomly by a decent % on black fridays, new year etc...

I change a lot simply because I search for 1 year deals and offer codes, but for the 2nd year they bump up the price massively. So I tend to change based on who is doing the best deal or price at time of purchase.

Tunnelbear was good from a reliable connection and software point of view, plenty of servers.
It merely lacked some advanced features when I last used it circa 2015. But now owned by McAfee, I would steer well clear.

PureVPN - this has quite a lot of features. When I first bought it the software & connection were quite reliable. It then went down hill rapidly constantly crashing & disconnecting I had a poor experience for a good 9 months. It was only because Paypal annoyingly automatically renewed (at my 1st year price) that I've stuck with it for a further 12 months. The software has since come back up to good reliability again and the connections are not dropping out like they used to. Plenty of servers, the software is actively updated. The advanced features suit my needs. Connection speeds not poor but not outstanding either.

PIA has some good easy to use software and reliable & quick connections, but lacks a few features I want.

IVPN, this had a really basic interface when I last used it, wasn't great to use, but had excellent performance, the best I've experienced in my VPN usage. At the time of renewal they raised their prices massively even with a deal so I moved on, otherwise simply based on performance I would have stayed. Last used them circa 2017. I would pick this for gaming.

Cyberghost was mediocre in performance. I only had them for a couple of months on a trial basis but didnt really get on with it. Software a bit clunky.

Re: Which VPN to go for?

I use Private Internet Access and never have any problems with it now. My internet speed is almost exactly the same as before and it never crashes or lets me down. The new app has fixed all of the problems I used to have with it such as taking forever to exit the app. Not sure about value for money though as I have not really looked into any alternatives.
