    anti-virus software and firewalls

at the moment i'm currently using zone alarm pro and norton anti-virus 2003. problem is that they use up to much resources, my question to every one is this.

would installing sygate be a beter and which anti-virus software is a "low hugger" too?

Cant recommend a firewall but, Ditch Norton its bloatware.
AVG is wicked small hassle free, the free version is good but if your really paranoid might be worth getting the Pro version. Great thing about AVG is it doesnt hog resources, but if you want you can shut it off on the fly

Been using AVG for ages its my personal favourite

another vote for AVG - as far as a firewall goes - Zone Alarm is one of the better personal filrewalls.

If you can , try to use another box for a firewall ( smoothwall / IPCop )

I'm told Kerio is another good personal firewall.

AVG is tops. For free, it cant be beaten. I've never caught a virus while running it.

Yet another AVG fan here. Goes on any machine I build.

Once the house gets net, I'll be buying the full blown network version as
    (a) the company deserves some money from me
    (b) It's the cheapest AV solution about.
    (c) Because of the free version, I've 100% confidence in them.

In Short, Massive thumbs up to Grisoft!
