Microsoft Outlook keeps closing! anyone know why?
Nov 2019 - I started having random Outlook closes and I honestyl thought I'd found a shortcut to close it by accident while typing, though I didn't know what that shotcut was
But it has randomly occured several time per week throughout Sept and then... stopped doing it
Update maybe?
Then it began again this week and my colleague, on a sperate system has experienced it a dozen times this week.
And sometimes it then needs a system reboot for it to not constantly close!
Anyone got any idea please?
Re: Microsoft Outlook keeps closing! anyone know why?
too many emails in main inbox?
mine got a bit unstable when it reached 2000 or so.
the .pst files too big?
found in users\<name>\appdata\local\Microsoft\outlook
gets a bit unstable if above 2 or 3 GB i've found.
you can compact it, https://support.office.com/en-gb/art...a-abe96dc8c7ef
last suggestion I can think of, and its a weird one.
the first email in your inbox that it has selected when you open outlook. this is a html email, and you've clicked the 'safely download pictures' prompt thing. but... the server its getting the picture info from , it timesout, or the theres a glitch, or your firewall/antivirus goes 'hang on, those downloading things are dodgy'. it just shuts outlook to protect you.
every time you then open outlook its got this email selected and just auto shuts.
the Reading Pane, option needs to be turned off. under the view settings.
did say it was a weird one. :p completely guessing at this, because ive also had the auto-shutting outlook on friends computer, had a poke about. then all of a sudden outlook would open and it'll have the reading pane turned off, and be completely fine. soon as the pane was turned back on, then problems would occur again.
not sure how you fix it completely though. never found out. it just stopped happening after a while.

Tried launching it in safe mode, see if its a plugin?
Re: Microsoft Outlook keeps closing! anyone know why?
It's likely to be an addon as previously mentioned.
But which version do you have, is it cloud or offline based?
I've never experienced issues because of a full inbox or large PST, mine is 6GB.
That usually means there's something scanning the inbox when you first start Outlook like an integrated Anti Virus or SPAM checker like SPAM Reader or SPAMFighter, so it's pausing because they have so much to trawl through on startup.
If neither safe mode or removing addons work, then on the desktop version you can run a Repair option on your PST/OST files via the Control Panel, there should be a Mail option in there, that will give you access to account information outside of launching Outlook. Select the main Email account you use and run the repair on that, take a backup of your PST files before running this.
