So why says no then? I'm sure it's installed on the machine isn't it? You don't uninstall it every week do you?Originally Posted by Raz316
Knoppix runs from a bootable CD ajbrun. So you just slap it in the drive if and when you feel like using it.

Gentoo all the way...
Plus my desktop - a Mac - uses BSD at its core.
Got two servers running fedora core 3, for servers you can't beat it but i'm still a 100% windows man for my desktop.

I think there is a difference between who seriously uses it, who installs it and plays with it, and who just has it installed.
I think the numbers would be different.
Perhaps better make the pole
Who has it installed
who has it installed and plays with it
who has it installed and uses it
Who uses it as a main OS

Nah i run it as a live CD, i.e. just boot the machine up with the CD in the drive if I want to use it.Originally Posted by ajbrun

I have Debian installed on my Laptop and on one of my desktop rigs (a nice PIII 700Mhz)
I use Windows and Debian equally, most of my work etc is done on Debian (GIMP, OpenOffice, Bluefish etc) and most of my Gaming and MSNing is done on my Windows rig.
I had a penta-boot (5 OS's), WinXP, Slackware 10.1, Mandrake 10.1, FC3, SuSE 9.1.
Now I just have XP and Slackware, which I use as a webserver and file server.

Windows XP & FreeBSD 5.3 laptop
Where do you lot download your distros etc from?
"In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship."
linuxiso.org is always a good one, most of the distros have a download on their on site.
ftp mirrors
lots of places

Just windows, no use for linux on either of my machines.
I use linux (mandrake 9.0) at work as a proxy/firewall/web/fileserver but can't really be bothered with it at home. Even though I'm moderately comfortable with linux, something which is going to take me endless hours just to recognise my onboard network card properly and not make a klutz of working with my audigy card just isn't worth the hassle.
Use Linux and at least 3 other flavors of Unix on my home machines (HP-UX, Solaris and AIX).
Tend to change Linux distros quite often more for curiosity than anything. Currently trying to get Gentoo to compile on a HP C360.
Saving up for a mini-itx rig so I can run a web server in the corner without the noise and at relatively low power.
