What media player and library manager?

For a while now I've limped by using WMP12 on win7 to play my mp3s but I'm getting fed up with it dropping random tracks from albums for no reason and not letting me untick songs like in itunes so it won't play the duffers but still keep them in my library for occasional listening.

Is there anything that basically works like itunes/WMP but, plays AAC and MP3/MP4, has better library management, has an adjustable equaliser, but comes without the footprint and apple QT + bonjour (etc) bloat?

Nice to haves but not essential: playing FLAC, supporting 5.1 surround, 24b/192k etc - all a bonus if possible.

Not sure if it functions like iTunes per se having never used iTunes but Dopamine ticks the rest of the boxes I think.

Nice UI too, he's currently rewriting it to be cross platform so hopefully soon I can use it on Linux too, although Lollypop works quite well on there.

I've been using musicbee for the last 10 years or so. Easy to use itunes-esque interface but very customisable with vast library management options if you go looking. Supports winamp plugins and has worked with everything I have thrown at it so far including my chord mojo, fiio mp3 player and sony walkman which can be difficult to get working without their proprietary software. Also integrates with online services like last.fm and can pull info from various sources like lyrics, artist/song info, and news feeds like telling you upcoming concerts of your favorite bands. I don't know if there are better out there because I haven't felt a reason to change yet so no complaints so far.

Re: What media player and library manager?

I want to recommend WinAmp, but it's had no development for ages.
Although neither has WMP, it's been the same since Vista with minor updates. So you might still be able to use it.

I've always created playlists in WMP and listened that way, until one day Microsoft Zoom/Groove music decided to take over and completely corrupt all my playlists on W10 that I had built up since '98.

Sadly now I've just been using Spotify
