Best lightweight anti virus for gaming
Hi everyone, sorry if you get this question a lot, just wondering on what av I should get for when I get my new pc with a 5600x and 3080 or rx 6800 xt, I'm looking for something that offers good protection and requires minimal resources, just wondering what's around right now, thanks.
Re: Best lightweight anti virus for gaming
The built-in Defender is all you need.
Re: Best lightweight anti virus for gaming
^^This. Also get a couple of anti-malware like MBAM/Spybot S&D, and just scan them as required, once a week/month etc.
Re: Best lightweight anti virus for gaming
I'm inclined to agree with the others. Especially as some of the free packages available manage to be both more resource intensive and have lower detection rates than the built-in AV. There are some good ones too, but you have to do your research, and Defender sets quite a high bar nowadays.
Re: Best lightweight anti virus for gaming
Yup I used to use Avira AV but since Windows 10 the built AV does the trick.
As @Scryder mentions, you can also run malwarebytes MBAM from time to time.
Re: Best lightweight anti virus for gaming
I used to use malwarebytes in tandem with built in but I've found myself being content with the windows 10 built in anti virus. I see alot of people who I sell computers to still installing the big brands for whatever reason though.
Re: Best lightweight anti virus for gaming
Like others here, I also just use Windows Defender along with an occasional Malwarebytes scan (but that's just because the licence hasn't expired yet).
I happen to have a couple of licences of McAfee that I got with Office 365 Family purchases but that's not something I'd ever install.
Re: Best lightweight anti virus for gaming
I just use Windows Defender. If you want something a bit more, then Kaspersky's free antivirus or Bitdefender are also good options, but they get in the way more than Windows Defender.
