    Recommended email clients...

    Hi Folks,
My Gmail account is sitting around 14GB and I need to start cleaning it up. I've not really done much pruning in the last few years, and I get a LOT of email. I was planning on using a fat client so I can sort by size, sender (so I can remove massive amounts of marketing spam) etc.

What's everyone's recommended mail client? OSX or Windows is fine.

    Cheers...

I am using Mac Mail, seems to do the job just fine.

On Windows I used emclient. But saying that in the end I was signed up to Microsoft 365 so ended up using Outlook

I stuck with Eudora for absolutely ages, even after development was stopped. Why? I liked it, was used to it, and it made backing up, and even re-installing/transferring an absolute dream. But, needs must ....

These days, Thunderbird. It's okay. A bit frustrating and clunky in places but, mostly, pretty good and it gets the job done. And frankly, my needs these days are pretty minimal anyway.

    Becky! Internet Mail.

Very flexible, and easy to back up & transfer to a new PC - just back up the files along with HKCU\Software\RimArts.

    There's
    https://www.emailtray.com/
which I find useful for checking at intervals and is also a client.
    Then there's
    https://binaryoutcast.com/projects/interlink/
based on T'bird and from one of the team at Pale Moon.

    Re: Recommended email clients...

Hmmm, I've deleted several thousand (yes really) emails using Thunderbird, but my inbox is still sitting at 94% usage. I've done the 'empty deleted' thing. Anything else I need to do to purge mail?

    Re: Recommended email clients...

Compact folders - the emails need to be 'squeezed' out!
File - Compact Folders. Or R-click on an Inbox and choose Compact; do for each Inbox.
You can set a limit, above which T'bird will ask you:
Tools - Options - Advanced - Network & Disk Space - last box. Mine's set to 350MB and Compact is ticked and set to 1MB.

I think I'm going to look into this as well as google mail now is just spam and I cannot stop it. Even when I block one it's like it gets replaced by two

Have you tried sorting by file size? Might be a handful of emails with hefty attachments you may no longer need and/or could be stored in a local or cloud backup instead.

Email is not a filing system.

If you was still looking, I'd recommend eMClient it looks the part and works on both Windows & MacOS.
