Cleaning your registry

It's a wonder that Windows doesn't have one built in. Considering how much rubbish accumulates in there.

Personally I use Registry Mechanic 4 after every uninstall just to clear out old bits of code and redundant links/shortcuts, and of course Driver Cleaner when changing vid card drivers.

Crap cleaner is great for cleaning up temp files on a virused up pc but on mine i use RegCleaner.

There is one made by MS, its called RegClean.exe, but I don't know why they didnt include it in the standard install in windows. I believe its discontinued <sarcasm>Great Idea MS</sarcasm> but you can still find it on download.com I think. Personally, I use PC Tools Registry Mechanic 4, although there are many other programs that will remove dead entries. If you do decide to manually clean it out (Regedit) I'd suggest cleaning in the startup entries...

Regedit is the standard windows registry editor, it only browses, not scans. I think you mean regclean crashes- yeah, I've had this problem before, but the program was originally designed for w98 and not xp. They dont support it any more

I use CCleaner and System Mechanic 5 Pro to get rid of the gunk. It is amazing how much crap accumulates in there when you install and uninstall software. Mindblowing, no wonder people are reformatting their hdds once every few months.
