you want to backup your data or your operating system ?
if is data , then just burn it to CD , but if its the OS and config etc , I suggest you speak to jiff lemon about ghosting and sysprepping.

at home , without a web connection
if you want to take a drive image accross to a new machine its not too straigh forward , especially if the machine has a widly different hardware spec.
I'll point him in the direction of thie thread when he gets back.
Will you have the new pc and the old one at the same time , or have you got another drive to back it up to ?

I will not have them at the same time unfortunately. Looks like i am stuck really. What exactly will system restore do for me?
nada if you dont have access to a system to back the old one up onto.
what exactly are you wanting to back up ? have you lost your orig OS CD's ?

How many drives you got?
Sysprep/Ghost/drive image a good idea.
You got a replacement PC lined up?

once u back up yer hdd
u r back up and running within 10-15 mins
