    Allway Sync becomes GoodSync

If you own Allway Sync I've just had an E-Mail to say it is has been bought by GoodSync and developement on Allway Sync will cease.

A little frustrating as I only bought this in September and it's a damn good piece of software.

With Allway Sync Pro it was a lifetime license for personal use (and I think business).
GoodSync is now a yearly fee with a price hike.

Sadly GoodSync is heavily focussed on Cloud computing, and other fluffy features, none of which I want.
So I'm basically being asked to pay for features I do not need nor want.

If anyone happens to have Allway Sync I recommend downloading the final version (22.0.1) before the site is blocked/closed.
But god knows if you'll be able to activate it in the future.
I won't post a link direct to the setup exe as already the certificate to the site has not been renewed and could be problematic in the future.

In the App goto: 'Help > New Version Check' and it will take you to the website to download.

    Damn.

"... has been bought by GoodwaySync." .... Strike 1

"GoodwaySync is now a yearly fee with a price hike." .... Strike 2

"Sadly GoodwaySync is heavily focussed on Cloud computing" .... and, Strike 3

Downloading Allway (unless, already installed) is now .... tricky. All options on the website now seem to point to "upgrading" to 12 months of Goodsync. In other words, downgrade your lifetime iicence to 12-months "free", then starting paying.

Sadly, I don't currently have it installed. The version in my archive is 21-1-5 which, while not current, isn't ancient. Happily, I don't really need it now. I do use FreeCommander (paid for), which is MUCH more of a File Manager replacement, but does have a sync component. I can also use (and do in a different way) the Sync software on my NAS to give a kinda Cloud Drive facility but LAN only. And, the way I use Macrium Reflect for backup minimises how often I'd use Allways anyway.

So, personally .... GoodSync? Subscription? Hell will freeze over first.

But if I hadn't already moved on, I'd be very peeved. AllWay was (is, I guess) very, very good.

Let me know if you want the direct link via PM.

I happen to have 21.1.5 installed, I'm a little reluctant to upgrade, just in case they've included a means to disable the Software or prompts to get GoodSync.
Currently there are no prompts and the software remains activated. Also it just works so as I have no problems I see no advantage in upgrading.

EDIT: Forget it, just found the release notes

    Allway Sync Release Notes

    Version 22.0.1

    - Allway Sync becomes a part of GoodSync!

    12/31/2022
That most likely has messages included in the software etc...

I would say 21.1.5 is the final version

I love it when I find out about good software just after it goes subscription only...

Anyone else getting errors when they try to open https://allwaysync.com ?

You can get x64 and x86 v21.1.5.exe files from https://www.techspot.com/downloads/1...lway-sync.html

The SSL certificate on the site has either expired or been removed. You should be able to tell the browser to ignore the warning.

    Re: Allway Sync becomes GoodSync

I think I have this, not actively using but last time I installed I grabbed the latest version, uninstalled and went back to something historic from a file stash. It works, didn't need an update.

Good heads up, and nothing lasts forever. Perpetual licenses are fine for things that don't need updating (and therefore ongoing maintenance costs). Anything that needs to be online needs to be updated regularly, at the last to ensure it's safe. So many things these days don't need to be online and are...

Thanks, but I have the same concerns as you. Besides, not having it installed implies I haven't needed it since setting up this machine, so maybe my best strategy is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Though, I take jimbo's point, too.

    Re: Allway Sync becomes GoodSync

I was another paid up user.

Mind you, I feel like I got my money's worth out of the software by now, and I never go into lifetime licence purchases thinking that the software will continue being updated indefinitely.

Like others, I'm at a point where I use it a lot less than I used to and have already migrated away in many cases, so it's really not a big deal to keep using the last version for a while and eventually jettison it when I can be bothered to strip out what remains.

Nonetheless, it's a shame to see it go. It was a good piece of software for what it did, and I didn't find anything that had the same mix of power and simplicity.
