You need to get one with the CD in it really - if you don't you'll end up getting a book which tells you all about KDE (a window manager) and the distro autostarts you in Gnome (bleuch...)

To be honest I'd DL a bunch of distros and find one that installs easily on your machine to the point of getting a GUI with working mouse and KB. Once you're that far I'd go off and find a book about it.

Or just hit the library and grab a bunch.

wouldn't get a general linux book for refernece, get one distro specific.

oh and don't use the cds in the book, dl the LATEST version from the net. far easier on the whole drivers side...

if you want an easy to use distro, redhat9 and mandrake9 spring to mind
