    Capturing Windows messages

Can anyone recommend a utility (don't think it is built into Pro) to capture the monitor display as you see it to send to others for diagnostic purposes?

You mean just regular screen captures, or real-time display?

If you just hit the PrintScreen key on your keyboard it copies the entire desktop to the clipboard and you can paste it into Paint.
Alternatively, if you just want the contents of the currently-in-focus app then hit ALT-PrintScreen instead.

    Or did I misunderstand you?

No, that is great. Where is the clipboard located?

Just click paste in whatever application you want to put the screenshot e.g. Paint.

I think the term clipboard is just another word for memory, though there is a Clipboard Viewer with some versions of Windows (not on this PC so can't advise where it is).

yeah the clipboard is a temporary torage place in memory. Its not a file that can be opened (apart from the afore mentioned clipboard viewer)

Simply paste the image you copied - into woteva app u want.

If you want to save the image, the best way would just be to paste into an image editing program, and save the file.

Just to clarify, whenever you copy something, it stores it on the clipboard, which is just a file in the RAM or temp folder (dont no which )

Have you ever considered using remote desktop? It basically means you (or someone else) can log onto your machine, just like you would normally on the welcome screen or logon prompt. A word of warning tho, there are many complications such as firewall issues, and the "remote" user would have full control of the system, however nearly everything from your computer would be displayed on their screen. Obviously its no good if you both need to see the screen at the same time, as only one user can log in at a time, but I often use it to help diagnose and fix problems on friends' and relatives' machines.
