why are you running server 2003 as a desktop? you evidently didn't pay the several hundred quid license fee for it, so go back to the university ot whatever who gave it to you & ask for a desktop os

Well I have heard a lot of people using 2003 as a workstation os without any of the server functionality. People even have used 2003 as a gaming OS! Supposedly it is faster and more robust than XP. Go figure.

its xp without all the fancy crap turned on thats why it can work well. Turn off all the graphical crap in windows xp and it will run just as smooth

Xp is good for what I need to get done...very responsive never crashes on me...and I have nLited it so it is quite compact...well the install cd was quite compact...went from a heavy 550 mb with only SP1a slipstreamed to a relativley paltry 130 mb with SP2 and a few hotfixes to boot! After install though the XP setup ate around 1.9 gigs of hdd space...I think that is quite compact considering that I had a Linux setup once and with all the bells and whistles it hit 3 gb...I dont see the need for running 2003 as a desktop OS frankly...would think there is a lot of stuff running in the background that would need to be disabled to get sweet performance in that OS. Hmm to each his own I guess. I am all up for tightening my XP install and maximizing the performance while having all the functionality I am used to in XP.

very easy? yeah, except you don't have any of the software you want (movie maker), you don't have the fiddly xp bits you want (logon screens), and so on

jealous? i have a full licensed windows server 2003 standard machine, it's been off for 3 months. on the desktop, i have a far superior OS to windows xp OR 2003 which works out quite nicely

and no you dont have such a great desktop, as u cant play any game u wanna nor run all the programs windows users run... you can run steam yes and maybe ut-yeh there great games, but you dont have the flexability of windows... lol you do prolly have the stability over windows tho
id just prefer some advice instead of constant post attacks with no relavant advice or help. besides i was only having a laugh with you and you attack back once again...
