    64bit Platform

With the release of Windows XP64 any day now, and since I have an AMD64 board, what benefits would there be if I were to change? what would I notice? would it worth it, really?
I doubt there'll be a significant leap forwards as surely thats more hardware driven. as far as I can tell the 64bit windows will just be 'a bit better' at doing stuff and using the AMD64's that much more efficiently. but what its all about I'm still a little miffed.
One thing I'm concerned about is whether there are sufficient drivers out there for the various things e.g. gfx card. we'd all feel pretty stupid we we went out and upgraded to 64bit and then found we're staring at a blank screen cause it doesn't like a 'slightly inferior' bit of kit...I know XP did this to various things when moving up from a Win98 OS, lots of things just didn't want to work in xp that were fine with 98.

and then there's linux, god knows where to begin with the choices you get with them!

N-force drivers & nvidia drivers in general are good. I don't have any ATI cards atm so I can't comment. SATA drivers seem a little scarce & the one's I've found are a bit pants tbh. Good source of drivers is Planet 64.

Can WXP 64bit run native 32bit apps or will there need to be new versions of everything that will be compatible?

'Most' 32bit apps run fine. There are a number of good support sites & forums about. Planet64 (see above) is one & Fidotel is another.

It was the same with the move from 8-bit to 16-bit PC apps.... when the userbase is established - and Windows 64 will help there - the software support will increase dramatically...
