heres a tip, save money and wait for the DWM update for XP and there you have it, Longhorn
looks rank... very childish unprofessional interface.
god they've COMPLETELY BROKEN IT >_<
what the hell is the menu bar doing underneath all the buttons - it's not big, it's not clever, it's not user-friendly, and it'll cause hell for existing apps & users of those apps
and that new start menu is just sick - think of how much you'll need to scroll up & down to get to something embedded in a subsubsubmenu
before i was interested in longhorn. now i'm not. ick
I smell project looking glass rip offs.....
It is Inevitable.....
Microsoft are doing everything right to make the Tiger update for Mac if some of the other screenshots I have seen on the net. Personally I think I will stick with XP for now as its only being used for gaming. Even if I did go to longhorn I would have a feeling that all the "playskool" looking features would be turned off as I do in XP. They released a release candidate of the DWM for XP a few months back and I wasn't impressed with it at all.
Nah it looks good - the 3D effect - avalon(i think thats the engine behind it, might have been renames to dwm by now) really works well, it was in the last build although very buggy, pressing alt tab gave you mini 3d windows to tab through, not the most effecient way to do things but it looked good

that link sends you to winbetas review of it Might hve to try it myself o.O
I think MS should spend more time on making secure and reliable software, rather than fancy graphics which they are using to try and sell it.
XP was good enough IMO, bit blue and Telly Tubby looking, but after a quick change it looks much better, but they still had lots of security flaws. That's really why I'm thinking of Linux for a main OS and XP for gaming.
Be fair to M$ here (cant believe I am defending them), windows is only a very vunerable OS because virtually every cracker out there is targeting it. If they all focused their attention on linux etc instead then linux would probably have just as many problems...
And if you read that review of the new longhorn build you'll see how different to XP it is underneath. You cant blame MS for trying to make it all look good - thats what 90% of their home users want... We are not their main customers here...If I was designing windows i would want to make it look the best out there so that i sold the most copys

Thing is that 90% will upgrade to Longhorn no matter what because its the new windows operating system which only comes around once in a blue moon.
i hear this EVERY TIMEOriginally Posted by Spud1
more than half the web runs linux, bsd, etc. windows is a minority - yet almost all web server viruses in the past 5 years have targeted only windows servers. it's not as if the web is low-profile, every cracker out there would be targeting the linux machines given the ability
