Any Media Centre Edition Experts out there?

I'm struggling to get DVDs that will play on normal players from recordings made by MCE.

The files have a DVR-MS suffix and is M$'s variation of MPEG2. Over on TGB there is a download called DVR Ripper which says it will convert to "proper" MPEG audio and video files. I can't get this to work - has anyone got it working? It needs XMuxer which I have also installed.

    Thanks

    Dave

    Am I doing something wrong?

DVR 2 WMV - on "thelittlegreenbutton" - at least converts to wmv ... it takes a bit of time however.

    Thanks for taking the trouble.

I've had a look at that but my DVD player won't play WMV files.

I'm just looking to be able to put a show on a disk and then watch it on a standalone player such as the one in my bedroom.

Should be able to convert from wmv to avi (or dvd files) - a lot more easily than from dvr-ms files...

I've got Roxio Media Creator V7.0 and I've just found an update on the Roxio website that says it will support DVR-MS files.

    I'll try that tonight.

Very handy indeed! Will have to check that as well

(Nero may also handle it, i've just been told...)

Popped home at lunch time to try it and it told me there was no qualifying product to upgrade! I have downloaded the retail upgrade as I have the retail boxed product with CD.

    So that's a bitter disappointment!

I already tried the Nero and that needs Nero Express Version 3. I only have version 2! You can't get the updates to take you from 2 to three, you have to pay!

Well good news for me anyway!

I found a fix for Nero Vision Express and I must have had version 3 after all, as it worked, and I'm now burning my first DVD using it!!!
