The latest Media Player contains the basic codecs, like WMA, WMV, mp3 etc, believe it supports DVD too.
i believe if you search in google you can find a download pack for Media Player codec for things like that.
The others are then from third parties like Divx, Xvid etc etc.
So i doubt you will find an all in one download solution.

Google for ffdshow. That plays a lot of stuff. Nimo is good buy a bit messy; it kind of installs all manner of **** on your pc I find...

Just get SLD codec pack OR tsunami codec pack and ffdshow/latest divx 5.05 and youll be fine.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

You dont necessarily require DivX5 but I tend to install it first out of habit. These are the ones you need for various types of file:

ffdshow [lots of betas available but latest non beta still Sept-2002]
This is for playing most normal mpeg4 avi's such as DixX and Xvid.

For playing ogm/ogg files you need 3 things:
    Ogg DirectShow Filter
    Subtitle mixer
VSFilter 2.29 - see here for sourceforge page for latest version.
    For more info on ogg/ogm's

    AC3 Filter for AC3 Files

matroska splitter for MKV files - you may find you still need a better player than windows media player for MKV's.

Avi Splitter - will allow you to view partially downloaded AVI files.
Real Media Direct Show Viewer - Whilst you still need Real One player installed, this will allow you to view these files on your player of choice.

My current fav media player replacement is Core Media Player

If you dont think you have the right codec to play a file (or think you have too much rubbish installed - i.e. you have installed a pack like Nimo) then drag the mpeg4 file into this program and it will tell you what is needed to play it - Gspot.

Completely screwed all my system last time i installed (well, half installed it cause half the program doesnt work, tried downloading from half a dozen different sites) and screwed WMP9 and PowerDVD when i removed it. Ended up taking off as many codecs as i could and reinstalling both video players and reinstalling tsunami and it worked fine. I still blame Nimo

    Best Avi proggy is BSplayer
Best everything else is PowerDVD or WMP9 if you're lazy like me DONT use WMP9 to play ogg though. Mine always seems to use 500+meg pagefile to play ogm/ogg files in it
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!
