What makes you pick linux for this task ?
you don't appear to have done any research on this as a solution reading your comments above. Before rushing in I'd advise you check
a.) your hardware will do what is required
b.) your hardware is supported by linux
c.) the games server you want to run is supported on linux
Hope that helps
It is Inevitable.....
Well i am running a game server using win xp and sometimes it has some lagg but this is not internet lagg but pc lagg(assumed to be windows)
So alot of people have recommended using linux
I have never ever used or even seen linux in operation so i need as much help as possible
I want an o/s that uses hardly any of the pc so the server can be allowed to use as much mem and cpu as poss
Do a search on this section of the hexus forum, there have been loads of really useful threads on this topic and they should answer all your questions![]()
hate to tell you this... but unless you're running really really old hardware, linux isn't going to help you. indeed if you use a more mainstream distro with X and gnome or kde, you're likely to slow the system down even moreOriginally Posted by ibmike
. If you want to try Linux then for this task I'd recommend Debian Sarge or Vector linux.
dgr
Get a proper PC rather than linux.
