    Im making my first css website. Im not sure about layouts. Do i get a template or should i make them myself? What ones are best? What colors work best on websites?

    Well i have been looking aroung and i like the way the Nvidia site all blends in with the white and i also think the single collom in the middle is the way to go.
    Now where do i start from there, what "single collom" design is that called?

    I think you should start from the beginning to be honest. Don't jump in the deep end, learn all the basics thoroughly first. Even the use of tables is a good base of knowledge in webdesign in case you have to take apart a website.

    Start with www.w3schools.org

    The css is there for you.

    Just create 3 boxes:

    <div id="left">
    <div id="middle">
    <div id="right">

    I can't really recommend what you should come up with, look around and see what you like, and more importantly see what other people like. Beg and borrow ideas (always get permission). Here's a little free webspace I used a while ago to test some ideas: http://smooth-nuts.siteburg.com/. Cross-browser compatibility is another - seemingly extensive at first - thing you should look into

    To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
