    Any SUBST experts?

In the past I've partioned my drives and ended up running out of disk on one drive and with space where I didn't need it!

I know I could use partion magic but would still be juggling the sizes.

So, this time I thought I'd put all my "stuff" under one folder and then map a drive to it using the SUBST command. This worked OK but the drive disappeared when I re-booted. How do I make it permanent or do I just put a batch file in start up?

    Thanks

    Dave

Yeah stuff a batch file in your startup would be the easiest way to do it. Im pretty sure subst doesnt have a way of making it persistent.

Another way to do it - would be to share the folder in question.
Then make a mapped network drive to this share - and make it recurring - ie reconnect at logon.

this would have the same effect but without having to use "old technology"

    um...

subst would be a relic from msdos

why not use NTFS's built in ability to mount partitions to empty ntfs folders - i have an e:\media\video\series on one machine, which is a different raid array to e:\

I had a look at that and it seems it will only work with an entire partition. I'm just using a a folder on an existing partition (the system partition).

I have a folder called Media on the C: drive. I want it to appear as a seperate drive in my computer, ie M:.

Can this be done any other way than SUBST?

    But thanks anyway

junction.exe from our good friends as sysinternals.
i've been using it for years, tested with xp sp1 - unknown under sp2.
used it to create a mount point for the netjuke project to show my music folders from main desktop to my apache server (running on windows ) and worked perfectly.

ooooh shiny - symlinks and junctions with a gui.
    http://www.pearlmagik.com/winbolic/

just played with it - slightly easier to drive than junction (esp. in regard to deletions) but prefer junction as i'm used to cmd line.

*edit* and junction works just fine under xp sp2.
