    Debian + Wireless Adapter

Just got my wireless PCMCIA card (Linksys Wireless G) and am now trying to get it working under Debian (Kernel 2.6) and i'm not having much success.

It goes into my PCMCIA slot fine and initializes at bootup, but, it powers up and that's it, it wouldn't be able to connect in bootup becuase I have a WEP key on my Wi-Fi network. When i'm in Deb. i've tried adding a new network connection (and selecting wireless) but nothing shows up in the dropdown box.

ifconfig similarily brings up nothing in relation to the card. I have a feeling that it's something software/driver related (sadly I couldn't find a card that had Linux drivers and I was advised in one of my previous posts that this would still be able to work)

Cheers for any help you lot can give

    r1zeek.

I'm not %100 certain of how debian configs wireless cards.

However what is important is that 1.) you have wirless tools and a card the supports wireless extensions if possible (check for iwconfig)

you then need to make sure you card is configured with the correct ESSID.

Now for the tricky bit. I think WEP support on most cards in linux has problems due to not many card makers making the encryption software/api available to linux, I've had problems with this in the past so I have to run without WEP and use MAC authentication.
    It is Inevitable.....

you'll probably have to use ndiswrapper together with the windows driver for the card.
