There isn't really a best one, there are a common bunch and they all work as well as each other if you keep them up to date.
Personally I have Norton 2003.

Its free and it is always up to date. This makes up for what the ones you buy from the shop dont have - Always up 2 date virus checks.

I agree, no 'best one' but another fan of Norton AV2003 here! Other free AV is...

I've used Norton 2003 and while it was good I personally prefer McAfee. Just my 2 cents

f-secure was rated number 1 on an indipendant test i read on these forums not so long ago
yeah i use F-Secure on my network, aint free but it is very secure
At work we use McAfee VirusScan 4.5.1 - later versions seem a little bloated and didn't even work on my PC when I tried the demo.
At home I use AVG 6.0 - http://www.grisoft.com - as it's free and has regular updates.

I use Avast. Turned to this after my some stuff wasnt caught by AVG. Seems to be very good at worms and trojans. When setup it updates quickly without any hassle, also allows a boot time scan to be setup as a 1 off. Its free but I would pay for it.

I do to. imo AVG is the nicest. It hasnt let a virus in yet, its small, free, regular updates, doesnt lag your computer. It is a very good scanner.Originally posted by Paul Adams
