Dont know if this is the best way but this is what I do.

Windows first, onto a blank, fully formatted hard disk.
Next I put on just the motherboard drivers - Latest from the manufactureres website ( i get all the drivers i will need on a CD beforehand )
Then along comes Service Pack 2, and any other updates for windows i have on my CD.
Then its video , normally omega drivers
    Audio next.
Then any misc ones such as mouse, monitor, printer.

All this is done with NO internet connection. At this point i'll normally plug in the network cable and setup windows to use it for internet - leaving the default windows firewall on for now. Then you can activate windows

AV and Firewall can then be installed (if you want them), then you can disable windows built in firewall and run windows update before your finished.

I normally install AV and firewall second to last cos they can mess up the other steps at times, and theres no need for them without a net connection anyway

    hope this helps ya

    you forgot to activate windows

and dont install any internet stuff until windows is fully updated - else you can easily become victim to any number of attacks ;/

there was a very good guide i read about a year ago if not longer, exactly the same topic, this was pre sp2 though, and more along the lines of this:

    1. XP

    2. Optional components, something about adding things that wouldn't use, then removing them after the critical update part

    2. SP 2 (guide said SP1 at the time)

    3. Critical updates

    4. Chipset Drivers

    5. Lan Drivers

    6. Other hardware not covered by 7 & 8 below

    7. Audio Drivers

    8. GFX drivers

    9. Apps

I adhere to *almost* this every time, but move the lan drivers up to above the critical updates (for ease!)

Wish I could find that guide, was on one othe the other overclockers sites.

I need x64 drivers for my mobo, the dfi ultra-d. I have the main one but the audio needs a seperate one, and there is not an x64 one. Can windows handle it (i am not an audiophill)

here is the dfi downloads for my mobo
    http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Downlo...FLAG=A&SITE=UK

Also do i need SATA drivers, or is that contained in the main Nvidia driver?
