free antivirus program recommendations

want a good (ideally free) antivirus program.

Avast. To get it to behave nicely it requires a bit of config.

I used to be an AVG user but had quite a few probs.

I use Avast as well, picked up stuff other AV software missed. Have installed it on all the familly / friend rigs. I just leave it to auto update, can be a bit of a sod if im in game, but updates are incremental and quick. Has been the best AV I have tried, and its FREEEEEEE

Good support forum aswell, and it updates alot, which should = good... sort of. Anyway, tis my fav.

Ive used avast, and might stick with it when my Mcaffe lisence runs out.

i dont bother with installed ones i just run an online one when i think something might be up or downloading stuff of dubious origin. I use trendmicro one and panda.
