    No Monad in Longhorn

    http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?si...&tid=1&tid=218
Remember that new Windows shell? Looks like it'll be yet another technology that won't make it into Longhorn. 'It will take three to five years to fully develop and deliver,' said Microsoft Senior Vice President Bob Muglia this week at Tech Ed 2005.
What IS going to be in Longhorn?

An incredibly restrictive licensing agreement, the sweat and pain of a load of contracted employees with little to no security bossed over by Redmond's answer to Colonel Sato in a suit ("be happy in your coding!"), and a price tag so high you need the Hubble to see over the top of it?

My guess is that it's going to be an uber powerful version of Pocket PC for desktops at the moment.

One which will probably require you to phone microsoft for reactivation every time you close/open the curtains in the room it's in.

Lets not forget the DRM implementation that is going to be present. So whatever you may install...big brother is going to be watching you...and on another note...how do you enable avatars cause when I try to enable mine...it does not give me an option to enable it in the first place!! All it says is...no avatar option...and a radio button that is already selected...and nothing else... :-(

Yeah there is info on that...go to beyon3d and you will find a long discussion about it. Or type in palladium secure computing into google and you will find some more on it. In fact Intel has DRM implemented in its processors already. And other manufacturers are going to follow suit! Also some motherboard manufacturers are in fact going to be implementing fritz chips as well...the era of free computing is no more...

I thought palladium was simply for copy protection of the OS itself?

No it is an entire platform for secure computing...rahter fishy actually...its a major component of the drm they keep talking about implementing in the next gen OS. It kind of sounds unnerving to me and I am sure a lot of people, but there are already products with drm implemented like windows media player x and it is alright...i mean i am not paranoid about it...YET!
