ie is fine, but nothing else connects!

    Hey,
Having a problem with a computer. I think the problem arose after attempting to uninstall norton internet security anti virus watsit. Internet explorer works fine, Outlook express works fine. However and herein lies the problem. AVG won't connect to update, doesnt even try, soon as i clock update it says it can't connect. Picasa2, when clicking the "email picture" button is unable to send properly. Mozilla Firefox is unable to display any webpages, and microsoft antispyware won't update. I suspect this is the same for many other programs, i've just not tried it yet. It has been tried with no fire wall present, there is no router just a adsl modem. Windows xp on a packard bell laptop (quite possibly irrelvant) and service pack 2.

sounds like some particularly nasty spyware has ripped your network stack to pieces, there are some out there that do it

It almosts sounds like you have a couple of problems, not just one.

Can you download & run up to date versions of spybot & adaware? and one of the online virus checkers too.
