ntoskrnl.exe missing isn't a fixmbr issue, it's a "your kernel has been deleted" issue.

kernels, recent studies have shown, are good

xp stores its boot screens, in obfusticated form, inside the kernel (i.e. hitten in ntoskrnl.exe)

compiling your own kernels is fine, hacking them with a hex editor seems a bit too much effort to me

you're still hacking things into your kernel by guesswork

i tried using bootscreens a few years ago, using "good" tools, and stability dropped.

    Theres the answer

Knock the overclock back down. Let me guess that your using SATA as well ?

This happens as the FSB gets to a point where the SATA controller cannot function correctly and as such the data "read" is seen as corrupt.

Knock it all back to stock and I bet it loads first time
