    Sites look better without javascript...

    Maybe wrong forum.. oh well..

Anyway theres not that many sites that dont work fine without it.

Hexus as an example, works fine without - both forums and main site. With it off, no text ads (which are bloody annoying anyway although I do click the other adds occasionaly to help..)

So what sites do need it? and does it have any real purpose apart from making websites bloated...

JavaScript is an essensial language to almost any big and successful website. It will be there some where in some form. Alot goes on behind the scences with JS that the viewer doesnt even know about. Take dropdown menus and Form validation, alot out there use JS to do what they do. If used properly its a very usefull language to use on a website.

Heh i agree that it has little use, plenty of other scripting languages out there that don't come from the horrible lanugage that is java. VBscript can do most of it, and for things like drop down menus etc...they are a HORRIBLE device anyway - almost as bad as using *shudder* flash.

Just my opinion ofc, each to their own etc but I have never and dont intend to ever use javascript in any of my sites. I don't like vbscript either really but its the lesser of the 2 evils

Javascript can be extremely useful. It doesn't need to be controlling big nasty menus or whatever.

As Dorza says - there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes.

Take the relatively new AJAX technology (Asynchronous Javascript and XML) for example, which is behind Google Maps.

    An excellent use of Javascript!

In summary: very useful when used right
