    Exclamation Safely Remove Hardware

Both my MP3 player and my USB memory stick said I should safely remove the hardware before disconnecting it. I'm guessing this is just to make sure it's not being access, so that no data corruption happens. I've actually only been doing it with my MP3 player (probably because it cost a lot more). Could this be damaging my memory stick?

Also, does it automatically do it when you shut down?

Yes as you said it is to stop data corruption etc just in case it is being accessed/written to.

I have an mp3 player and i never bother using the safely remove hardware and I have never had a problem. If something does happen an mp3 may become corrupt but im not bothered as all my music is safely stored on my pc anyway.

So even if something does happen, you could still put it all back on with no damage to the hardware?

Well nothing has ever happened to my usb hard drive or mp3 player by unpulgging it but I can't see how not using safely remove hardware will damage a device.
