    Sharepoint

Having just installed Sharepoint, im at the stage of customisation. Not new to Frontpage, i thought it'd be easy, but from what ive learnt its a royal PITA!

Surely there is a way to design your template and apply to all pages, from first impressions it doesnt seem so...

Also, how the hell do you edit all the bits, the current template/theme (FWIW - Water) is close to what im after, but i want a white background for the main page and I dont want the crappy aqua blue/turquoise links.

Ive opened the css which i beileve it uses and changed all the settings, yet i still get a crappy turquoise link colour and damn dark blue bg!

have you installed sharepoint team services or sharepoint portal ?

be really carefull with those CSS sheets on it ( just been on some sharpeoint workshops and you can break things quite easily ) - I'm sure you can modify the colours from within the page itself.

the hardest thing with sharepoint is actually getting people to use it!

which workshop did you go on, ive been asked to look around for the best one. i think ive realised about the breakages.

luckily before i started i mirrored a theme and called it what i wanted, and everything i edited was in there. the ows.css is backed up anyway, as im running a local one.

having started again this morning things seem to be moving forward... still im only changing the default.aspx at the minute, hoping there is a way to change the template/layout of all other pages once im happy with the design. seems very very long winded to do most stuff. and it doesnt help having 3 main css files (all which do stufF) as big as russia!

I was up at lynx technology - www.lynxtec.com

you can modify quite a lot from within sharepoint itself.

    Sharepoint Template

linked is a pic of the 'template design' - not a great detailed design but what we're looking for, surely theres a way for me to implement that accross the board, as all ive edited is CSS files

I see what you are getting at - I'm not sure how easy it is to do ( sadly Sharepoint services is quite cut down by MSS to encourage people to use full on sharepoint portal )

here are a couple of links which might be of assistance.

it might just be me, but... i think ive had enough today...

How do you configure and run WSS portals under SharePoint Portal Server?

The section "Portal Site and Virtual Server Configuration" is similar to the section "Virtual Server Configuration" in WSS. What can be confusing at the beginning is that you can create WSS portals and SPS portals. SPS portals provide a richer feature set like targeting content to audiences, richer navigational UI items, richer search capabilities, etc. (see section "the differences between WSS and SPS" in this article). The item "Extend an existing virtual server from the Virtual Server List page" is the same as the item "Extend or upgrade virtual server" in WSS. The item "Configure virtual server settings from the Virtual Server List page" is the same as the item "Configure virtual server settings" in WSS. These items allow you to enable a virtual server for WSS, in that same process create a top level portal on that virtual server, and bring up the "Virtual Server Settings" of a WSS enabled virtual server. The steps are identical as with WSS (see section "how to administrate Windows SharePoint Services" in this article). When launching into the WSS portal you again select the template to use to preconfigure the portal. You can also remove WSS from an enabled virtual server so that you can use it for a SPS portal later on. From the "SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration" select the item "Configure virtual server settings from the Virtual Server List page", click on the virtual server you want to remove WSS from, which brings up the "Virtual Server Settings" page. Under the section "Virtual Server Management" select the item "Remove Windows SharePoint Services from virtual server" which brings up the "Remove Windows SharePoint Services from virtual server" page. You can choose whether you want to remove also the content database and continue which brings you back to the "Central Administration" page of WSS. Click on the item "SharePoint Portal Server" on the left side which brings you back to the "SPS Central Administration" page.

ive just found myself head in hands laughing (loud) to this section... im doing my nut in here.... what a pain! its too WSS and SPS happy!
