firefox tips wanted

just changed to firefox(using firefox and ie at the moment but using firefox more and more).

Want some tips/advice on getting best out of it and what are best extensions/addons & themes etc to get.

Notice that startup is slower than IE. Is there anything I can do to speed it up(as sometimes I use ie instead of firefox because of startup time).

If you do any web editing, grab Web Developer - it creates a handy toolbar with a multitude of buttons.

Don't forget that middle mouse button on links opens them in a new tab - saves you rightclicking and using the menu all the time. The only bad thing is that every time I'm forced into using IE, I middle click a link and then wonder why it isn't loading!

Mouse gestures. Download from many sites - just google it. Navigate by holding the right mouse button and making movements with the mouse. Works a charm.

Tabbrowser Prefs and IEView rate among the best IMHO.

Tabbrowser enhances the tabbed browsing (inc having the tabs at the bottom of the screen!)

IEView is self explanatory. IN Firefox goto http://www.odeon.co.uk and enter the site... and the menus wont work.... (due to sloppy design - as covered in other threads) right click an empty space and 'View this page in IE' - works a treat

i found this for firefox a while back, and did notice a slight difference, give it a go.

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Thanks, that really sped it up, starts faster than IE now.

yeah cheers for that. tabborwser doesnt seem be working on my pc it says it is there but nothing has changed and theres no options to change it or anything?

oh yeah and my fav extension is foxytunes so i dont have to keep opening winamp to change track

You also wanna look into customise google, gmail notifier (if you use it) and adblock. I quite like download status bar but its an acquired taste.
