    Network Upgrade/Migration

    Moving from Novell4 to Win2k3.
Anyone here done similar, not touched 2k3 before and trying to get together a list of possible issues and fixes before things get moved over..

    2k3 is pretty straightforwards.

one way I've heard is to create a "vol1" share on your nex windows box and copy the entire novel file structure accross - this only helps if you have a lot of non dynamic drive mappings.

how many users are you migrating ?

    37 users.
Figured u'd b one of the 1st guys to reply
The hardware side's sorted out its just listing everything that needs to be done and whatever possible issues that might arrise from that.
Using the old Unix box and turning that into the 2k3 box.
As u know I have a 2kws box that does email/filestorage and the N4 box that does printers/logins/filesharing and the main incoming fax.

tbh I cant see there being much difference between 2000 server and 2003, I've downloaded the 2003 demo from MS and I'm just building a box for it to go on.

Also need to look into licensing as well as were probably not 101% legal atm and I've signed up to FAST to hlep us out with bits n bobs, should b interesting 6 months...

see if the boss has still got any money left when I'm done

what spec is the unix box ?

is it currently in use ?

with 37 users you might just want to re-create your dirdcotry / permission structure from scratch - it wont take long and its a good time to implement a nice secure file system.

the main differece with w2k3 is shadow copies really.

I'll b creating the whoel thing from scratch, theres some weird ass rights and user groups so I wanna ditch as much crap as possible..

The current UNIX box is in use atm, its a 2.4Zeon, 1gb ram 4x18gb scsi drives, dual board but single chip so mite stick another in there but dont think I'll need to tbh, bit more ram maybe....
