    SSH Tunnel

Right this is gonna be pretty vague because im not entirely sure of the process but...

is it possible to create an SSH tunnel so that an application on a remote machine thinks its local to the local network? We would like to be able to access our phone system from outside the network.

VPN at this time isn't possible.

Any ideas of what tools I could use?

    Cheers!

when you think of ssh tunneling - think of a wapper to an existing application.

It will realy depend on the application, as what you need is to create an ssh connection (client to server) and then on the sshd daemons user the forwarding option. You basiclly just putting an encyption wrapper around your application traffic.
    It is Inevitable.....

sounds like a job for NFS tunneled over SSH - it'll be helluva slow, though

you'll need to use something like NFS for the program in question to "appear" as if it's installed locally

cheers peeps, sorry for late reply ive not been in at all today.

the application in question mimics our ip phones and doesn't actually ask for an ip address or any other settings for the server, it just runs off and finds it. I dont think it needs to be run over the network, I just need it to think its local to the dect phone server when it is run.
