    IE icon being renamed

    Hi,
    My dad has been complaining that his IE icon on the destop keeps on renaming itself, I've just founded it named as "whe"... I've checked for malware with AdAware and done an AVG scan but I can't find anything and he swears he isn't renaming it by accident!

    Any thoughts?

    Hmm. doesn't sound like any malware I've heard of, smacks of user error to me. Apologies to your dad pickers but Occum's Razor applies, the simplest explanation is usually the correct one..

    i think pealy is onto something.

    what you can do is lock him from doing this via the registry.

    the shortcut is a specail type called a classid

    start -> run -> regedt32
    then navigate too:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}
    once there change "Default", then set it to read only (right click on the key, choose permissions, advanced, then add, enter his username, then click okay, then tick deny set value)

    throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)

    I have found Opera to be compatable with 99.9% of websites - internet banking seem to be the worst. Setting Opera to look like IE6 under preferences seems to do the trick (apart from that annoying 0.1%)
