Why does Windows decide to change all the folder views every so often for no reason?

Just did it now, i plug my external drive in every day, same view, then all of a sudden changed the default view from list to thumbnails, no reason at all, nothing different today, its been raining but i don't think XP is that sensetive

How can i lock the views down so nothing changes, ever, without me saying so?

I think it might auto change depending on the majority file types in the folder being viewed.

But it should stay the same if you specifically change it to something else. Another one of XP's quirks

Yeah I ALWAYS get this it's so annoying, for no reason it will change view type!.. Also often I will change one folder to a specific view then it will change EVERY folder to that view! Then when I refresh it changes again?!

Have yet to find a way to solve it, but am glad I'm not suffering alone lol.

Damn Microsoft and there no good 'bugs'..

I think their is a way to change this..

    Test it..

    Double Click your drive ..
Click View and select how you wish to view it..
    Go to Tools ..
    Folder Options ..
    Select View Tab..
    Click "Apply to All Folders"

Next time it opens it should be how you want it to be viewed and for every other drive...

That's my problem.. I don't want ALL drives to be viewed as 'Thumbnails' and I don't want all to be set to 'list view'. So the specific ones I set up manually but I still get them changing by themselves.

Also I have tried 'applying the view to all folders' but I still get no luck in keeping them all the same.. Must just be a flaw.

Windows does tend to forget view settings.

You can permanently set folder attributes by using a desktop.ini file. Not sure if it will allow you to specify the view type but it's worth looking into. Try googling desktop.ini
