    outlook express backup

anyone know how to do it, make a backup of all the emails saved, all the addresses and everything in outlook basically?

i really need to format my machine, but i have too many valuable emails to loose (too many to justify emailing them to myself on another email address)

if anyone could help. it would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Misty

The easiest way to back up your messages is to back up your store folder - you can find out where it is by going Tools, Options, Maintenance and hit the Store Folder button. Copy that entire folder to your backup location. As for your address book, I'm not exactly sure where OE stores it - I think Outlook uses "c:\documents and settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book", maybe OE does too?

That's in proper Outlook, not Outlook Express... the only export option in OE for messages is to export messages to proper Outlook. You can export your address book from File > Export > Address Book, but I don't think either of the formats it offers are particularly useful - you'd be better off copying the .wab file from the location I gave.

Try this website http://www.oehelp.com/. I have used the free utility OEBackup listed on the site and it did the job.

i spent 2 hours on the phone to someone last night who backed up his messsages in outlook expres 5 and then good old microshaft made the backup files not compatible with OE6. took ages to find a proggy called DBXtract (very gd btw) and then get all the msgs back into OE6. grrrrrr

moral: be careful in which format you back things up with emails. .eml files are always best
