1) Can windows XP home happily run dual-core processors properly?
2) How are people finding winXP Professional 64bit edition? Do most games run well? How is the driver situation for things these days?
Thanks in advance.

1. From MS: "A. Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows XP Home are not affected by this policy as they are licensed per installation and not per processor. Windows XP Professional can support up to two processors regardless of the number of cores on the processor. Microsoft Windows XP Home supports one processor."
2. Not tried it - yet!![]()
2) I find it works fine with all my games, better then x64 actually for Bf2.
The only drivers I have problems with are conexant and the Matrix Orbital Display,

I'm dual booting at the moment.
Staying on 32 bit untill I get to uni as I have to use Wireless and there is support for some cards, but only the model above the one I am using.

Well in gaming terms I'd say that there's a good 10-15% decrease in Loading times for BF2.

I cant understand why you will happily pay through the nose for a dual core processor, yet aren;t running XP pro?Originally Posted by kalniel

Well if you look at my sig you'll see I'm not happy to pay through the nose for a dual core - I'm still running a pentium IIIOriginally Posted by badass
Just thinking in terms of what increase in performance you get for each stage of the money (for future upgrades). XP pro costs a good 50 quid more than home for how much of an improvement in performance? Of course there are other benefits, but not everyone needs them, but that same 50 quid could be spent going from say a 6800le to X800XLIt's just another cost to factor into the cost of dual cores over single (or HT).
Windows XP64 exclusively here and have been since the second-to-last beta (now running OEM release).
The only issues I have bumped into have been scanner drivers and a weird shutdown issue (machine hangs shutting down about 20% of the time - seems to effect a lot of x64 users)....the shutdown issue can be worked around by doing a restart instead and then powering off the machine when it hits the BIOS POST screen on the ay back up.
Games definatly run better then on XP SP2, not by a huge amount but everything is definatly smoother for me![]()
