newb to php, help me battle through this

installed a WAMP purely to overcome one problem i have, i want:

    - each user to login {this needs to be a site wide login}
    - each user to submit their weekly timetable
    - then have the file outputted to schedule.php

like: basically mocking my current spreadsheet!

as im a newb, how do i go about it? ive read tutorials but its all a bit above me

grab me on msn [msn at vini.co.uk]

need sum1 to talk me through connecting to the DB, 1 bit of text from a row in the table and displaying it on a page.

    nothing fancy

    db: viniZVin
    table: schedule

    $name
    $monday
    $tuesday
    $wednesday
    $thursday
    $friday
    $return

You really need to rethink your database design, that simply isn't going to work well for you in it's current form. You should simply have entries which had a start and end date/time, and then use PHP to work out where they appear. There are a multitude of schedule type PHP applications out there already. I suggest you grab one and look at the source code to find out the best approach e.g. http://www.phpclasses.org/browse/package/1732.html

whilst that looks excellent, i feel its way over the spec of what im after

surely i should just be able to draw a table and put $monday in the section of the table i want? or am i being too optimistic.

    readdressing (still not sorted):

experimenting, with a simple schedule script. i input my schedule into this form and it goes into mysql (db: vini and table: schedule) which i can see in the db.

    but...

how do i get the results ($name, $monday thru $friday and $return) into a table, like:

    ___________________________________________________
    | Name: | Monday: | Tuesday: | Friday: | Return: |
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    | $name | $monday | $tuesday| $friday| $return |
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

i would appreciate any help, guides or anything which could help me fix this surely, small hiccup?
