So that's seven different versions, four (?) different GUIs (such as Aero Glass)... anything else Microsoft want to add to the pot? Perhaps optimised versions depending on your combination of graphics card, processor, motherboard and collar size? I'm just glad I (probably!) won't be the person trying to sell Vista to the layman.

I just want to know the prices, they said it would be cheaper, but that could mean only for the starter packs, The best edition which everyone is going to want pretty much on here will prob be so expensive, the human brain will blow up trying to contemplate it

    Microsoft Vista windows page says

    Rapid Reflexes

"With superior memory management, Windows Vista is responsive-often more responsive than Windows XP on the same computer. In particular, it's faster doing the tasks that are most noticeable-opening the Start menu, for example, or right-clicking a file in Windows Explorer to display a shortcut menu."

Jeez I can't wait, gotta buy this OS - it's quicker at opening shortcut menus! Pant, pant oh God I'm so excited I'm hiperventalating, quick pass me the brown paper bag.

    Oh perlease. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzLinuxzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Er, weird! I can see from a marketing point of view what they're trying to do, but wouldn't it make more sense to provide certain aspects of these versions as "modes" within one unified operating system? If there was a "CE" or more specialist version, I could understand, but as it stands, it just looks to me like they're going to confuse people.

If you look towards Linux distributions, a lot of the setup routines include a sort of "What are you going to be using your PC for?" wizard setup, which guides you through and helps you set up the applications and settings that would be most useful to you. Maybe this approach, combined with different "mode" settings, would be more sensible!

"And you'll restart less often because you can use the sleep state instead of shutting down to save power."

Er.. how can an operating system reduce system power? Say you have a power burner like a pentium 560 surely it's either on or off?

valid point, it will be either on or off. Also they seem to be doing the same with windows vista as what has happened with windows xp.

    XP Home
    XP Professional
    XP Professional 64bit
XP Starter Edition (was going to release it, don't know wether they did)

well thats 4 and then windows media centre which i suppose is built on windows xp would make 5 different combinations. i really cannot see where the other 2 are going to fit in though. probably windows good graphics and windows average graphics (crap graphics in other words, they just say that to make it sould better).
your computer is similar to a fridge in that if it cannot keep a beer cold then it sucks

Because bombarding users with 1000 different 'versions' with all kinds of different licence schemes instead of asking logical questions is so much simpler, didn't you know?
