its not the spec its how the software works.

As long as people don't go off preservation when programing, its fine. However frequently it messes up in a big way.

It will take some extra CPU cycles, and also some memory too, but not much because normally during these paint events a modern computer isn't even beging to be challenged, if you've got hyperthreading, or multipule CPUs its you'd be hard pressed to see the impact.

I've used it several times and it's been okay, I tend to be far too indecisive though and end up spending hours trying different themes! For that reason, I don't use it now, but I've never had any problems with stability. However, I find with a lot of themes (especially the more elaborate ones), that there are little niggly bits in applications that don't deal with them well, and so your beautiful theme ends up looking a bit rubbish. Hope that helps!

bear in mind that windows xp's built in theme engine is a licensed, cut down windowblinds - it should be just as stable & reliable as what's built into windows

It didn't make my computer unstable, but it does hog resources, and I never like having much background apps open - so I just got a 'hacked' uxtheme.dll thingy and now I just replace the visual theme with a doubleclick
