    Windows Activation Help?

Went to a friends yesterday and his wife had brought a computer home
from work (She is off for a few days and decided to do some work from home).

When she switched it on it got as far as the login screen (Win XP) then
said it needed to be activated before it would continue to load windows
    and gave three options.

    (1) Activate over the net.
    (2) Activate over the phone.
    (3) Shut down.

We decided to Activate over the phone as we had no internet connection and it gave this huge number to write down and a telephone number to ring.

She rang the number gave the information and was given a new number, we put the new number into the machine and pressed proceed and the computer booted to the desktop.

Fine we thought she did a little work on the computer and after a while needed to reboot, it got as far as the login screen then said it needed to be activated before it would continue to load windows
and gave the previous three options.

We input the number we had been given 1 hour earlier and it said invalid activation code?

HELP where do we go from here?

P.S. she has not got the windows disk with her

no just everytime the hardware changes.

if she got that OS from work, then i would of hoped her work place would of been on eOpen or similar, as such it wouldn't need activation at all.

I had a laptop which had to be activiated 3 times (hardware must of changed 3 times.... pfft!) after that, never had to do it again.

you could always look at hibinate once, resume many. save boot time on most laptops

There have been no hardware changes to the computer it was a spare computer at work that was used now and again for odd jobs

Its a very small firm they only have about 3 computers and as far as I know they all have their own xp disks

Another innovative security feature from Mr Gates - if it won't boot - it must be secure!

Activations a PITA when it goes wrong, I uninstalled the Novell client on my machine at work and it said it'd need reactivating due to a hardware change, tried to activate it and I ended up ringing up and doing it....
