what distro are you using?
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
theres a new version of smoothwall out , but its still beta - at the moment if I wanted a begineer firendly gateway system I'd probably use clarkconnect.

he's installing unbutu from what I've read in the other forums.
look at iptables, if your not confident with linux then basing your network security around it may not be a good idea, as you have to be able to administrate it and analize it.
invest in a hardware/router firewall if you are genuinly concerned. Use linux to learn and play for now, as your still very new as you admit yourself.
It is Inevitable.....
So is there nothing like say zone alarm for linux?

throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
have a look at http://www.fs-security.com/
firestarter seems to be a way of configuring iptables with a GUI

I think I saw someone try and put mono wall on an old nokia box - it sounds pretty strong![]()

way off topic, but as its a silly one i feal okay.
i like m0n0wall because the distro has a great sense of direction and product.
provide a powerful router + hardware firewall thats small footprint fits on embedded and old x86 as well as high end stuff. Thats able to boot of solid state memory, and require minimal attention. Its great. Just wish it didn't use PHP as its a hudge security risk imo.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
hang on, these firewalls require a seperate computer? or am i missing something? Is there no software based ones?
