    Linux firewall

    I need a linux firewall and i am a complete linux n00b HELP!

    theres a new version of smoothwall out , but its still beta - at the moment if I wanted a begineer firendly gateway system I'd probably use clarkconnect.

    he's installing unbutu from what I've read in the other forums.

    look at iptables, if your not confident with linux then basing your network security around it may not be a good idea, as you have to be able to administrate it and analize it.

    invest in a hardware/router firewall if you are genuinly concerned. Use linux to learn and play for now, as your still very new as you admit yourself.

    stand by the smoothwall, excellent firewall if has a spare box, but I'd wait to beta

    way off topic, but as its a silly one i feal okay.

    i like m0n0wall because the distro has a great sense of direction and product.

    provide a powerful router + hardware firewall thats small footprint fits on embedded and old x86 as well as high end stuff. Thats able to boot of solid state memory, and require minimal attention. Its great. Just wish it didn't use PHP as its a hudge security risk imo.
