Just installed to a "secure" customer site.....

Just been delivering the test version of a new application to a customers site remotely via a VPN. Customer is security concious and has been annoying with the hoops i've had to jump through to get access via a VPN.

So i'm about to install a new database on their "secure" db machine.

What do i find but a win 2k server running NO hot fixes what so ever. its a dual p4 xeon processor with 512mb of memory????. Running 50 plus DB's. Most small but some 2GB or more in size.

But best of all username i'm provided....

sa with a password of..... blank

I've just sent a letter to the cheif IT bod their side on this project. As whoever is in charge of this needs shooting....

This really is the worst system i've ever seen for a "main" DB system.

Goes to show you can have all the security in the world on incoming/outgoing connections etc, but the weakest link will always be a lazy IT admin.
