    Website destruction

Need some opinions here people....done a new website for a new kiddies clothing company which donates 50% of the sale from each t-shirt to charity (so it's for a worthy cause).

I was hoping that you ladies and gentlemen might be able to spare some time perusing the site and giving me some feedback. Take it apart and destroy it, although if you find a way to get into my db, please don't teach me a lesson by wiping it....I promise I'll learn my lesson if you just tell me there's a hole...

Anyways, it's Couture Baby London at www.couturebabylondon.com ....

let me know what you think.

OK, I had a look around, and the front page/main title page, with the large image, just doesn't seem to go with your whole 'company' look. When I first saw your front page I 'guessed' the website was for a Anime Comic/series etc. I just didn't get the feel that it was for a Baby's Clothing line. This front page, also in my opinion, didn't look as professional as the rest of the site, it seemed to let it down somewhat.

Next point, is that obviously it's not finished, but I just thought I'd let you know that both the Girls & Boys linked images, go to the same page, and I would of expected them to take me to the 'Boys clothing Range' page or the 'Girls Clothing Range..' etc.

Once onto the main site, I liked the design, it's neat, tidy and easy to use. It also uses vibrant colours, which are relevant to the business. In particular, for me your menu on the left stuck out, it looks great, and is well designed.

I can kind of see what Aidan is saying about it looking slightly girly, but as it's a Baby clothing range, in this case I think the site pulls it off.

OT: Aidan when giving feedback it's nice to say "why" you thought the site looked somewhat girly.

Hope these suggestions/opinions help in some way, and I hope no offense is caused, just merely constructive criticism.

With a few tweaks that will be a great site.

Yup, the comment on images is duly noted, and I tried to impress upon the client that it wasn't the best solution, but we have set some time aside for a text based version of the site, and she wouldn't let me get away from her own fonts and designs....which is also why it's a bit girly....although if she'd had it all her own way it would have been all pink, so at least we had some compromise...

I agree, it is hard to explain in a simple way why heavy use of imagary isn't ideal to the non-technically inclined. At least I didn't see all pink, that would have been painful :/

Firstly Tomahawk, cheers for the feedback...

It's a new brand with only a single line at launch, around which this first page is actually designed, as it incorporates a number of the designs used in the initial range...it'll also tie in with the advertising campaign we have in the works, and is hopefully going to catch people's attention as they enter the site. Plus, Manga is pretty hot amongst design circles - lots of trend prediction services have it at the top of lists - so hopefully we'll catch some media attention for the angle.

Again, thanks for the feedback. It's certainly very much in keeping with the designer of the companies ideals, so I'm certainly happy to hear that it seems to be pulling the right strings...

That's possibly the least offensive amount of constructive criticism I've ever received for a site, so don't worry about offence being caused....just glad you took the time to check it out. Thanks again.

Basic SQL injection attacks appear to be well defended on user login and search. I didn't register but if you use cookies then you should make sure you can't inject from them as well. I didn't have time to try cross site scripting attacks.

On the design front it's vibrant and refreshing although the shopping cart looks out of place on top of the coloured circles. You should also download the HTML Validator extension for Firefox as the homepages shows up with 3 errors and 64 warnings. Hexus is equally guilty of getting some warnings but it's best to avoid the errors wherever possible.

Iain... thanks for the feedback. I think I got most of the Insert and Select SQL queries covered against injection attacks, but you never know when one has slipped you by....I should really have a generic parsing function for all variables, but never got round to it. Hope it doesn't cost me in the long run.

Again I'm glad to hear that people are liking the interface. Colourful and vibrant were two essential requirements in the design brief, so it's nice to hear we might have pulled it off. You're right about the shopping cart....it was kind of stuck on at the last minute, and it shows. We're working on revamping it into something slightly more sympathetic with the overall feel to the site, along with the whole checkout process.

    Thanks again.

I get those in FF with some other tabs open mate

Nice site like the simple clean layout and I actually like the front page (as far as it fits in with the theme ). Nice "chunky" menu items and generally looks nice and neat. Bit annoying about the scroll issue but looks good apart from that

Yeah, I've been able to replicate the scroll bars now...I should be able to get rid of them by relocating the shopping basket a little to the left. Cheers.
